You need to get some light into his face.

Play around with the lights!

Think the pose is a bit to basic and lacks that "extra"...

I agree with Patrick. The light on the back is fine, but you need a little bit more light on his face. Still a nice a experiment.

I think the pose is good, basically, tho maybe would be better if he didnt look straight into the camera.
No problem for me with the shade on his face. The back-lighting works well.
